* Appropriated Gender
September 15 - October 12, 2012

The “Appropriated Gender” curatorial vision seeks diverse visual art and performance interpretations of gender perception and self-identity. Artworks that appropriate symbolic expressions of gender, iconic imagery, and representations of historic archetypes are especially encouraged. It is the curator’s aim to examine how gender is portrayed visually, in both subtle and direct manifestations, enlighten and challenge the audience, stimulating cultural discussion.
* Continuum Exhibition
August 18 - November 10, 2012

Ten current MFA candidates in visual arts at Florida Atlantic University propose to affirm their educational link with the past MFA graduates of FAU by exhibiting their artwork side by side. Each of the twenty exhibiting artists will be represented by several of their works, size-‐dependent. The exhibition will consist of work by its current MFA candidates, many of whom are already local educators, alongside the artwork of those who have successfully completed that same program and have gone on to continue the tradition of educator throughout the region. This year celebrates ten years of MFA’s graduating from FAU.

61st ANNUAL ALL FLORIDA JURIED COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION

"As the state’s oldest annual juried competition, the All Florida has introduced the work of thousands of Florida artists working in all media – emerging, under recognized, and established younger and mid-career artists. It reinforces the Museum’s commitment to Florida artists, provides professional exhibition opportunities for emerging artists, and reveals a provocative glimpse – through Florida artists’ eyes – of the state-of-the-art today through approximately 100 paintings, sculpture, photographs, video and installations. This year’s juror is Valerie Cassel Oliver, senior curator at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. Prior to Houston, Cassel Oliver was director of the Visiting Artists Program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1995-2000) and program specialist at the National Endowment for the Arts (1988-1995). In 1999, she was part of a team of curators that organized the 2000 Biennial for the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Cassel Oliver will select this year’s All Florida and its award winners from more than 1500 entries."
* Latinos Are One!
"Latinos Are One, LR1, is a place where Latinos come together as one to be inspired by one another.
In it's first season, LR1 took music fans inside the creative process as GRAMMY-winning producer Andres Levin brought together three rising musicians of different heritages and musical backgrounds to craft a new song celebrating the diversity and strength the American Latino culture.
Over the course of three days, Levin and Hip-Hop MC Velcro, Jean Shepherd from the rock band Navegante, and singer-songwriter Debi Nova combined their talents to create "Maña y Corazón" –a new single that showcased the current creativity of independent Latin music.
Season 2 takes "Maña y Corazón" to a different level when the song was used as source of inspiration to various artists to create their own unique take on the message.
We now invite you to take part in the experience. Take the song that inspired the artists or one of their pieces and come up with you own inspired art."
